Latest Event News

Check out this great video taken by the Bowie team last year
which nicely captures the relaxed, pre-war spirit of the day.

9th May 2013  Once again, the SU boys will be sponsoring us and joining us on the day, and bringing their hsitoric Skinner Special out to play again.  The car has a significant continuous history showing its journey from the hands of the Skinners, through the postwar years and onto its present owners.  When, in the hands of Ted Lloyd-Jones (of Triangle Garage fame), the chassis and bodywork was rebuilt to fit around the Hudson straight eight engine aspirated by four large SU's, and it is in this guise that it remains today.  More recently the special was owned and driven by Andrew Harding, and it was by pure coincidence that he made contact with Mark Burnett, Managing Director of SU.

Mark remarked: ‘We had used a picture of the car from our history file for an advert, which Andrew had seen. He contacted me for a copy, we got talking and he mentioned that the Special would be for sale soon. It was an opportunity we felt we couldn’t miss!’

22nd April 2013  With less than three months to the day, entries for this year’s Pre-War Prescott are currently running at about 50% more than at this time last year, which bodes well for a another fantastic turnout.  Let’s just hope that we will also be blessed with weather as fantastic as last year!  We have a particularly strong MG entry this year, making up about a third of the entries so far!  We have a couple more clubs that are planning to join us, including the Rover Sports Register and the Hillman Aero Minx Group - welcome guys!  We also have more trade stands booking in, and there is plenty of space for more.  Of the approximately 400 climbs available on the day, about a third are ALREADY spoken for, so it might be a good idea to send in your entry before the hill becomes fully booked.  From this point forward, things start happening fast, so stop by here regularly for the latest event news.
19th March 2013  We are extremely excited to announce that, for the third year running, Pre-War Prescott has been awarded a flying display by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.  In our 2011 inaugural year, we were lucky enough to secure a display by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight's Avro Lancaster - one of only two flying survivors in the world.  Last year, the skies over Prescott were graced by a Spitfire Vb from the Flight, and we just heard this morning that this year, we have been awarded a display by a BBMF Hurricane IIc.  Although the Spitfire became the iconic fighter of all time, the Hurricane was the workhorse of the Battle of Britain in the summer of 1940.  Per Ardua Ad Astra!
19th February 2013  Entries are beginning to flow in for our 2013 event and we are particularly keen to invite one-make Clubs and Registers to join us.  Any Club or Register wishing to join us at Pre-War Prescott can be allocated their own area of the Paddock to gather their cars, pitch a club tent, set up spares stalls, etc.  And there is a prize awarded to the club that that most enters into the pre-war spirit of the day!  But whether you are part of a club or not, any and all pre-war cars are warmly invited to join us on the day.  As a reminder of what you can expect, this event, which was entirely new in 2011, gives an opportunity for anyone who owns a pre-war car to come along and drive the famous Prescott Hill in a relaxed atmosphere and without any of the red tape that accompanies competitive speed hillclimb events.  Saloons are welcome, passengers may be carried, no racing licenses, helmets or flameproof overalls are required - and it is even possible to have a very high-tech, high definition video camera attached to your car and go home with a video of your climbs on DVD!  It should also be mentioned that spectators in post-war or modern cars are also most welcome and will be parked in the Orchard.

For those wishing to make a weekend of it, the Vintage Minor Register (the Pre-War Prescott organizers) will be holding their traditional and highly popular Navigation Rally and parallel Scenic Tour, starting at Prescott on Sunday morning and ending with cream teas and awards in the afternoon.
5th January 2013  Welcome to Pre-War Prescott 2013!  Planning is well advanced for the 2013 event - to be held on Saturday 2oth July.  The inaugural event in 2011  and last year's 2012 event were a resounding successes and plans for 2013 call for further expansion of the event with more clubs participating and more activities during the day.  The 2013 online entry form is now online (see the tab above left).  Once again the event is being generously sponsored by the SU Carburetter Company, and we have already engaged Fiona Harrison - Britain's finest professional forties singer to entertain us once again at the Forties Night in the evening.  (Professional images of the 2011 event may be found here, here, here, here, here and on YouTube here.)
